I take notice. I am someone who notices. Everything. Always. My stance? Quietly observing. My desire? To see the beauty in everything, and to point it out to you, my gentle reader. To capture it, in words and pictures. So you, too, will take notice.
A thing of beauty is a joy forever. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it. All of the great minds have spoken of beauty and have left their words behind for others to ponder.
And their fascinating coffee dregs, which they may or may not have noticed. Coffee and writing go hand in hand for many wordsmiths.
The desert reduces that last gulp untaken to a multi-layered memory of a three-cup iced-coffee morning, hot on the trail of the story that will be created from a segment of a sentence jotted down on a junk mail envelope. Somehow, in the mele, my steel pint cup got tipped and the dregs dried that way. The cup tells the tale. Layers of meaning, preserved.
The next chapter, a yes, I am ready to walk the dogs remainder after a wee hour productive flurry that yielded a hefty stack of Substack drafts. Next, an intensive yardwork morning, before it got too hot. My coffee mug stayed in the she-shed overnight, forgotten on this busy day, spinning its own tale as the leftover liquid dried.
I come with today's steaming mug as the ideas swirl all around me. Then I spot yesterday’s mug. I hold it up, catching a gulp of sunrise, illuminating my view.
I notice patterns. Mud on a sidewalk, ancient bone, a creek as seen from above, looking down through the treetops. A deep crevasse. Melted seafoam candy. Top o’ the cappuccino. Malted milkshake with extra dark chocolate syrup. I have not had breakfast. My stomach growls.
I see the fiery Sun in all its glory.
A pyramid, full of mysteries, slowly spinning.
A tiny dancer in my hand.
Then, a Planet, somewhere newly minted, with coconut bar cookie crumb constellations, spinning out into infinity. I draw in my breath, awestruck. The world in a grain of sand, or a few tablespoons of coffee. If you have eyes to see.
Bringing you the Joe you didn’t know. Get one to go, and have a great week!
Best,
Brenda Cordray

Here's an interesting article about coffee, just in case you have a couple of sips left:
The Universe in a Cup of Coffee
Splat! You are IT! ❤
If you loved this post, SHARE it, amigo. It would mean the world to me. Or, if you have such an inclination, buy me a cuppa coffee, por favor. Maybe I will let a bit of it dry and we shall see what we can see.
So good!
I will never look at a cup of coffee the same!! Love it!
